Honouring women in type

A book designed to celebrate women in the type industry has been launched.

The independent project celebrates over 40 international women in the type industry

The idea for the “all-female graphic design publication” came from ex-university of Arts London Chelsea student Amber Weaver and is due to be published by People of Print.

Femme Type’s purpose is to create a valuable stage and platform for designers to showcase their brilliant typographic achievements wrapped up in a wonderful printed format,” explains Weaver.

Featuring over 80 projects and made up of 256 pages, the publication is split into three sections: Essays, Type and Typography.

Femme Type was printed in a special Pantone spot colour onto Fedrigoni Arcoprint by UK-based printers Pressision.

Due to the cost of high-quality lithographic printing, a Kickstarter campaign has been created for those interested in the project to pledge, as a form of pre-order.

To promote the project, Weaver and People of Print have collaborated with 36 Days of Type to bring an A2, HP Indigo printed poster featuring their top 12 letter submissions by women over their five-year edition stretch.

An exclusive Twogirlsco ‘Designers Rule’ enamel pin in the same Pantone spot colour as the book has also been produced.

Both items are exclusive to the Kickstarter campaign. At the time of writing, the crowdfunding page had reached £4,989 of its £4,500 goal.
