Contact has fully recovered from its recent fire and is preparing to begin its rebuild

The fire occurred in January and thanks to the help and support of partners and the wider community, Contact was able to re-establish its studio and administration functions within 24-hours.

Steve Mulcahy, chief executive officer of the Group has now released a statement in which he expresses his gratitude for the support from the industry, particularly key partners SGS and Waldo.

He says: “Clearly the fire was a massive shock to the business, but I couldn’t be prouder of the team in their commitment to recover, build and move forward. Everyone has been astonished at the rate we returned to trading.”

As well as re-establishing key functions so quickly, the firm also relocated what residual equipment it could and was able to start production back up almost immediately.

While the details are worked out, we are seeking new premises to take the business forward, as well as developing our investment plans for the latest innovations in production equipment

Since the fire, Contact has retained around 60% of its platemaking production at the affected site and the remainder is being produced by plate production partners.

All plate cutting, mounting and quality control operations have been retained on site and the firm has been able to continue supplying its customers.

Looking to the future, Mulcahy adds: “As is always the case, the insurance and legal side of these situations will take some time to resolve but thanks to our comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity procedures, the insurance company has been extremely supportive and complimentary about our return to operation.

“While the details are worked out, we are seeking new premises to take the business forward, as well as developing our investment plans for the latest innovations in production equipment.”

Thanking everyone who offered to help, Mulcahy praises the entire flexo industry and says the outpouring of support has been overwhelming.
