Mixing sustainability with luxury

Taking into consideration what the market is currently asking for in terms of sustainability and finishing, Metsä Board has released a new collection of samples which demonstrate that both can be achieved in one.

The organic cosmetics sample features an uncoated surface, multilayer embossing, hot foil stamping and foil embossing, as well as no glue in the inner carton

The set of packaging samples have been carefully designed to show the various finishing effects possible and how Metsä Board’s organic paperboard can enhance this.

Aimed at end-users in sectors such as food, beauty care, pharmaceuticals, luxury packaging and graphic applications, the samples have been made using the firm’s folding box portfolio.

One sample designed for the cosmetics industry has an uncoated surface – something the firm says the market is increasingly looking for – as well as multilayer embossing and white and gold hot foil stamping.

The samples have been designed taking into consideration what the market is looking for such as the increased use of uncoated boards, especially in cosmetics

According to the firm, the most technically challenging sample of the range is its headset packaging which combines various effects, requiring multiple features of the paperboard.

Ilkka Harju, packaging services director of Metsä Board comments on the samples: “The samples have been designed taking into consideration what the market is looking for such as the increased use of uncoated boards, especially in cosmetics, with a surface that is highly receptive to special effects and finishing.

“Sustainability remains an important issue and our boards are lightweighted to give bulk and stiffness with the use of less raw materials.”
