Global winners announced in Kodak flexo awards

Kodak has announced the winners of its Global Flexo Innovation Awards which aims to recognise companies’ innovative use of the technology in print processes.

Kodak crowns its flexo innovators

Nearly 100 companies entered from 26 countries with a total of more than 200 submissions for judges to pore over. The awards were conceived to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the launch of Kodak’s FLEXCEL NX system.

Pier Luigi Sassanelli was the chairman of the judging panel, which was made up of an independent team of experts and global brands, including Procter & Gamble, Nestlé and Kimberley-Clark.

Commenting on the awards and innovation in flexo technology, Chris Payne, president flexographic packaging division, Kodak, comments: “I’m regularly asked, ‘What’s next on the agenda for flexo?’

“The future is clearly illustrated by the companies that have been honoured with these awards and the great strides they have made in not only demonstrating that flexo is capable of the very highest print quality but that, more importantly they are driving efficient, consistent and sustainable manufacturing processes. We are proud to be their technology partner.”

The panel judged entries based on four categories: creativity in graphic design, conversion from other print processes; workflow efficiency; and commitment to sustainability. The awards were divided into three classes: Silver, for excellence in two categories; Gold, for excellence in three categories; and Platinum for those achieving all four.

The company noted the high standard of entries, with the panel giving out seven Gold Awards and five Silver, with four companies taking the award for distinction of highest honours based on a numerical scoring system. No companies were awarded the Platinum award – something Kodak says sets a challenge to companies for future events.

Three UK companies took home accolades, with Reproflex 3 and Roberts Mart taking Gold for their collaborative work on persuading a global client to opt for flexo over gravure for consistency; and Pulse Media was awarded Silver for its process conversion and workflow efficiency.

Four Italian companies were awarded for their flexo projects, with three Gold awards and one Silver. The remaining winners hail from Europe, North America, South America and South Asia.
