Funds raised to celebrate women in type

Earlier this year, Print Monthly wrote about an “all-female graphic design publication” which had been created to celebrate women in the type industry. This has now been published thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.

The book features contributions from over 40 women

Published by People of Print, the idea for Femme Type came from former art student, Amber Weaver, who wanted the book to act as a stage for female designers to showcase their typographic achievements.

Weaver chose to bring the project to life through the medium of print as it gives Femme Type a more permanent presence which can be used as a tool for the next generation of typographers to come.

Featuring contributions from over 40 women from around the world, Femme Type was printed in a special Pantone spot colour onto Fedrigoni Arcoprint by UK-based printers, Pressision.

Divided into three sections: Essays, Type and Typography, the 256-page book features over 80 projects, including a foreword by GoodType founder, Brooke Robinson.

The fundraiser reached its £4,500 goal in just three days

GoodType is described as a “showcase of the letter arts” and provides a space for lettering artists and illustrators to connect across the world. This year, Robinson also launched a book featuring 130 artists from 30 countries showcasing their lettering designs.

Despite the Kickstarter campaign being planned to last 30 days, the Femme Type fundraiser, which was launched to help afford the cost of high-quality lithographic printing, achieved its £4,500 goal in just three days.
