Providing sustainable high-end packaging

Issues in packaging such as saving resources, reducing carbon footprint and ensuring product safety have been addressed as part of Metsä Board's new portfolio.

The enhanced folding boxboard portfolio’s lightweight make-up is environment-friendly and its enhanced and balanced visual properties have been developed to boost the brand appeal of customers.

The range has been described by Metsä Board as a “refreshed, simplified selection of products,” and has been specially developed to maintain a strong performance in demanding end-uses such as food, beauty care, healthcare or luxury packaging and graphics applications.

“Packaging of the future is all about creating better brand experiences with less environmental impact,” explains Ari Kiviranta, SVP development at Metsä Board.

“It is important that we continuously develop new solutions to make packaging even more safe and sustainable. For example, improvements to our new High Yield Pulp have enabled us to further enhance our paperboards thus providing even further opportunities for brand owners to lightweight their packaging.”

The range consists of five grades of boxboard: MetsaBoard Natural FBB is an uncoated, rigid optical brightening agent (OBA)-free grade that is described as providing an “on-trend natural surface to provide authenticity to high end product packaging”.

The Metsä Board Pro FBB OBAfree presents an improved OBA-free grade with high natural brightness combined with strong printability.

The Metsä Board Pro FBB Bright is a new multipurpose board with high brightness on top and reverse, now offering further opportunities for lightweighting.

Metsä Board Prime FBB Bright combines brightness with new bluish-white shade and high stiffness offering sustainable luxury for high-end packaging.

The only product in the range which remains unchanged is the MetsaBoard Classic FBB which offers the same amount of stiffness and high yield as before.
